This simple healthy treat is something that even my kids LOVE! Our mornings are hectic trying to get everyone out the door, so I found that I can spend a little extra time (not much) and plan ahead and make invidiual freezer bags. When produce is in season, or on sale – I buy a ton of it. I’ll wash all of the berries and on a clean towel let them lay in a single layer to dry on my kitchen counter. The next step is for the strawberries. I remove the tops and slice them in half (smaller peices if large berries). Once all of the berries dry, I take them off of the towel and put them in a single layer on a cookie sheet and in the freezer they go. This extra step helps to keep the berries from freezing in a huge clump and getting all mashed up. After you’ve patiently waited for the berries to freeze, take them out of the freezer and work quickly to measure out the berries into quart size freezer bags. Top each bag with a handful of washed fresh spinach or kale, and zip to close. Label them and put them in the freezer for next use. Then all you have to do when you’re ready for a smoothie is dump the bag into a blender and add your liquid. Boom! It’s done!
